Story of Guru Nanak Sahib Ji - History of Silkhs


Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born on 15th April, 1469 in Sabo Ki Talwandi it is also known as Talwandi Sabo and Guru Ki Kashi, a village in the Sheikhupura district, 65 kms. west of Lahore. Guru Nanak Sahib was the founder of the religion of Sikhism and the first of the ten Sikh Gurus.

His father, Mehta Kalyan Das Bedi, popularly shortened to Mehta Kalu Ji, was the patwari (accountant) of crop revenue for the village of Sabo ki Talwandi in the employment of a Muslim landlord of that area, Rai Bular Bhatti. Guru Nanak’s mother was Tripta Devi Ji and he had one elder sister, Bebe Nanaki Ji who became a spiritual figure in her own right.

Guru Nanak Sahib was married to Mata Sulakhni Ji at about 19 years of age.
